Do military conscripts need to undergo an annual medical board exam: the Ministry of Defense responds
All Ukrainian citizens between the ages of 25 and 60 who were deemed partially fit for military service before February 12, 2025, are required to undergo a follow-up medical board examination (VLC) by June 5, 2025. This requirement was confirmed in a response from the Ministry of Defense addressed to a request by MP Oleksandr Fediyenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence.
"These individuals must independently contact the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TRC and SS) or use the online portal for conscripts, reservists, and those liable for military service to receive a referral for a medical examination," the Ministry of Defense clarified.
At the same time, officials emphasized that individuals with a deferred mobilization status that remains valid are not required to undergo this medical review.
However, this rule does not apply to those entering into military service under contract, individuals previously deemed partially fit who have yet to receive a reevaluation of their fitness status, or those who voluntarily choose to undergo a medical examination.
Latest developments on mobilization in Ukraine
Government representatives recently stated that no immediate changes are planned regarding the exemption criteria for those subject to mobilization. Authorities noted that current procedures are "clearly defined, digitized," and thus are considered very "transparent, precise, and comprehensible."
Military analyst Yevhen Dykyi remarked that ongoing public discourse about a potential end to the war is already having a noticeable effect on mobilization efforts in Ukraine. According to him, this also resonates among members of the Ukrainian government.
