Screenbound
Described as gaming’s first 5D platformer, Screenbound asks players to explore a 3D environment while also controlling a handheld device on screen, home to a connected 2D world. Actions in either dimension reshape the other in clever, disorientating ways. It looks like one of the most inventive puzzle adventures in years. 10 September; PC, PS5, Xbox
Marvel’s Wolverine
The studio responsible for Marvel’s Spider-Man returns with a harsher, more brutal superhero story. New York’s open world gives way to an international journey as Logan fights to defend persecuted mutants. Rich visuals and fast, savage combat make this a fittingly sharp-edged take on the clawed hero. 15 September; PS5
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
The strategy role-playing series revisits the world of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A group of ambitious challengers gathers in the magnificent city of Dagsion for a tournament whose champion receives one wish. Expect detailed tactical battles, beautiful locations and plenty of tense personal alliances. 17 September; Switch 2
Silent Hill: Townfall
Silent Hill heads to Scotland’s eastern shoreline for a darkly atmospheric new horror tale. Simon Ordell returns to a sleepy harbour community unable to remember the disaster that has unfolded there. The streets appear deserted at first, though it soon becomes clear that something else is still waiting in town … 24 September; PC, PS5

Remedy Entertainment is taking its strange sci-fi universe in a new direction with this sequel to 2019’s Control. A different protagonist wielding extraordinary abilities leads a more role-playing-focused adventure through a transformed Manhattan, where a creature capable of warping reality is lurking nearby … 24 September; PC, PS5, Xbox
Ratatan
From Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani comes another wonderfully unusual rhythm game. Ratatan mixes action and platforming in a vibrant fantasy setting where songs become weapons, and co-operative players can build powerful musical attacks together. Think of Dead Cells combined with PaRappa the Rapper, and you are in the right territory. 15 October; PC, PS, Switch, Xbox
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
The blockbuster shooter series heads to Korea for another instalment packed with firearms, explosions and hard-edged military banter. Expect enormous combat encounters, familiar geopolitical drama and frantic online multiplayer, with the moustachioed Captain Price once again joining the operation. Grand Theft Auto VI
Following years of anticipation and multiple postponements, Rockstar’s enormous crime saga finally returns. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a couple tied together by love and lawbreaking, set out against the criminals of Vice City. Colourful, sprawling and unapologetically sleazy, it promises a modern digital spin on Bonnie and Clyde. 19 November; PS5, Xbox
There are No Ghosts at the Grand
Chris David inherits an imposing old hotel and must restore its crumbling rooms by day before dealing with its unwelcome spirits after dark. This eccentric British mystery is packed with hidden details, puzzles and the long-buried stories of the building’s former residents. TBC; PC, Xbox
