Emergency outages introduced in Kyiv and part of the region: trolleybuses and metro halted
Emergency power outages have been introduced on Kyiv’s right bank and in parts of the Kyiv region. According to DTEK, the restrictions were imposed on the instruction of Ukrenergo.
“Emergency outages have been applied on Kyiv’s right bank, as well as in the Bucha and Vyshhorod districts of the Kyiv region, following an order from Ukrenergo. During emergency outages, previously published schedules do not apply,” the company said.
Meanwhile, scheduled restrictions remain in effect on Kyiv’s left bank and in other parts of the Kyiv region.
Updated at 11:15. DTEK later announced that the emergency outages in Kyiv had been lifted, with the previously announced schedules returning to operation.
Reports on Telegram channels also claimed that metro traffic on the Green Line toward the right bank had been suspended because of the emergency power cuts.
In addition, Kyivpastrans reported that as of 7:18 a.m., part of the public transport network in the Obolon, Podil, and Sviatoshyn districts had been temporarily halted due to a lack of voltage in the power system. More buses were deployed on affected routes. Later, traffic on several trolleybus routes was restored.
Ukrenergo stated that emergency electricity cuts were introduced in some Ukrainian regions because renewed Russian attacks had created a difficult situation in the national energy system. Energy workers are currently working to restore stable power supplies.
At the same time, the Kyiv City State Administration said that reports about the Green metro line being shut down due to a power outage were untrue.
“Information circulating on social media about an alleged suspension of train service on the Green metro line does not correspond to reality,” the administration said.
Officials explained that the Syretsko-Pecherska line is currently operating under a temporary special timetable during morning and evening rush hours because of restrictions on the Pivdennyi Bridge, where only one metro train can pass at a time. At other times, trains operate normally.
“However, due to the lack of voltage in the energy system, some public transport services in the Obolon, Podil, and Sviatoshyn districts have been temporarily suspended,” the city administration added.
Power outages in Ukraine: latest updates
On October 9, electricity consumption restrictions were expected in several Ukrainian regions, Ukrenergo said. The limitations were linked to the consequences of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure.
On October 8, emergency power cuts were introduced in a number of regions across Ukraine. In the Kyiv region, the restrictions affected the Brovary, Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Boryspil districts.
Kyiv Metro also temporarily suspended train operations and escalator service because of reduced voltage from external power supply centers.
