On the evening of Wednesday, September 23, a fire broke out at a Starlink satellite communications ground station in Poland. Reuters reported the incident, citing Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski.

The official said the facility provided communications services for the entire region, including Ukraine. According to Gawkowski, the affected systems have now returned to normal operation.

“The fire engulfed the power unit and generator. It is clear that this sabotage was deliberately planned to disable the station, effectively cutting internet connectivity and disrupting access for various institutions, including the Ukrainian military,” he said.

He added that investigators have not yet established whether Russia was responsible for the fire. At the same time, he said that “many signs indicate that this is consistent with Russia’s new doctrine of attack.”

The report notes that Poland has remained on heightened alert for possible Russian sabotage since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Journalists also recalled recent comments by Poland’s prime minister, who described such incidents as part of Russia’s hybrid warfare campaign.

Russia’s threat to Europe

Earlier, European intelligence services warned that Russia could be preparing to test NATO in the coming months. Possible scenarios reportedly include a limited incursion, false-flag provocations, or a broader campaign aimed at exerting political and military pressure.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously said that Russia clearly understands which actions could trigger Article 5 of the alliance’s treaty. He also stressed that NATO has several ways to respond to Russian activity below the Article 5 threshold, adding that some measures may remain undisclosed.
