Ford plans to slash 1,000 positions at its Cologne electric vehicle factory in Germany
BERLIN, Sept 16 (Reuters) – Ford announced on Tuesday that it plans to eliminate up to 1,000 positions linked to electric vehicle manufacturing at its facility in Cologne, Germany, citing sluggish market demand.
"Consumer interest in electric vehicles across Europe continues to fall short of industry projections," the automaker stated.
"As a result, Ford will transition its Cologne factory to a single daily shift starting in January 2026," the company explained, noting that this adjustment will lead to the aforementioned job reductions.
To assist employees affected by the downsizing at its Cologne electric vehicle hub, Ford will provide voluntary separation packages.
The company is currently navigating a broad and difficult restructuring process in Germany, which has already impacted thousands of workers, including staff at the Cologne location and a separate facility in Saarlouis that is scheduled for shutdown.
