A bus crash in southern Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula has killed 21 people and left another 29 injured. The area is well known among visitors, particularly those interested in diving and snorkelling.

The accident occurred on the road connecting Dahab and Nuweiba, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Health.

Dahab lies around 80 kilometres north of Sharm El-Sheikh. South Sinai is a major tourism destination, attracting travellers with Red Sea resorts, beaches and a wide range of water activities.

Dr Ahmed Al-Sabki, head of Egypt’s Health Care Authority, said the injured were first taken to a nearby medical centre. Some patients were later transferred to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, Saint Catherine Hospital and Al-Fayrouz Hospital.

Dahab, located on the Gulf of Aqaba coast, is famous for its sandy beaches and relaxed resort atmosphere. Nuweiba is another coastal resort town, particularly popular with backpackers and independent travellers.

Egypt recorded another fatal road accident last month. In Ismailia province, 15 people were killed and 32 were injured when a pickup truck carrying workers overturned. The crash happened near the Al-Shabab power station in the Al-Dawawis area.

Deadly flooding in Nepal

More than 50 Ukrainian citizens were reported missing during sudden flooding in Nepal. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that over 400 local residents and more than 700 tourists from 30 countries had gone missing in the disaster. Among them were 55 Ukrainians: two tourist groups consisting of 47 and seven people, as well as one Ukrainian woman travelling with an international group. At least 165 people were reported dead in the affected area.
